South Africa’s Leading Edge Marine Service (LEMS) has set its sights on Australia, aiming to bring a new wave of innovation and collaboration to the region’s boating sector.
Founded and directed by Ewald W. Engelbrecht, the company has become recognised in southern Africa for its high-performance sportfishing and leisure craft and is now actively seeking Australian partners to establish a long-term presence in the market.
Recently joining the Boating Industry Association (BIA), Engelbrecht says the move signals a serious commitment to building trusted, accredited relationships with local dealers and marine professionals.
“Our goal is to create lasting partnerships,” he explains. “We want to work with people who share our passion for quality, the outdoors, and the ocean, values that connect South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.”
LEMS represents several standout South African brands now ready for export.
At the centre of its portfolio is the Invicta 30 CC, a 30-foot luxury sportfisher built by Maiden Voyage Industries in Somerset West. The Invicta has been engineered to international ABYC and ABP standards and combines twin 350 hp Suzuki outboards with Garmin navigation systems and premium marine finishes.
Designed for both performance and comfort, the Invicta delivers a balanced blend of offshore capability and onboard refinement, positioning it as a showcase of South African craftsmanship for export markets in Australia and New Zealand.

Complementing the Invicta is the Nemesis 2200, a 22-foot offshore catamaran developed by Bromley Marine Design. Built for reliability and comfort, it features a centre console with generous deck space, twin 400-litre storage boxes, an insulated icebox, and a carefully engineered CAT tunnel that delivers a soft ride even in rough conditions. A distinctive spray rail positioned one-third up from the keel ensures a dry ride when heading into wind or chop, an advantage appreciated by serious anglers and charter operators alike.

For families and all-rounders, the Ozean 19 offers a more versatile approach, combining sportfishing capability with family-friendly design. With its large flared hull, hardtop, and custom seating options, the Ozean 19 provides flexibility for either performance fishing or relaxed cruising, giving owners layout choices tailored to their lifestyle.

Engelbrecht believes the Australian market will recognise the similarities between local conditions and those faced by boaters in South Africa.
“The Cape and Natal coasts can turn quickly, calm mornings can become stormy afternoons,” he says. “Our boats are built to ride high and dry, with enough freeboard to haul in a serious Yellowfin and the stability to get home safely when the weather changes.”
This approach, he adds, reflects the shared boating cultures of both regions, where offshore adventure, family time, and respect for the sea go hand in hand.
LEMS is currently seeking the right Australian dealer or distribution partner, a business that values collaboration, reliability and customer experience.
“It’s important that we build a genuine value chain that stretches from the factory floor to the customer on the water,” Engelbrecht notes. “We want to support our partners with technical insight, parts supply, and direct access to our South African designers.”
After-sales support is a key focus of the company’s growth strategy. By partnering with established Australian dealers, LEMS ensures local servicing and warranty support for engines and electronics, complemented by direct technical backing from South Africa.
“Boats that can handle the Cape of Storms will feel right at home on the Great Barrier Reef,” Engelbrecht adds. “We’re confident our designs will perform just as well in Australian waters.”
During the African Boating Conference in Cape Town in October 2025, LEMS also opened dialogue with international operators including the Freedom Boat Club, exploring potential collaborations that could see South African boats supporting Australian club fleets and their Brunswick network partners.
For Engelbrecht, these relationships are about more than exports, they’re about connecting communities of boaters across continents who share a love for quality craftsmanship and adventure on the water.
