Construction of the harbour foreshore precinct is now almost complete at The Waterfront Shell Cove

Construction of the harbour foreshore precinct is now almost complete to position The Waterfront, Shell Cove as the NSW South Coast’s premier tourism destination.

Prior to the official handover to Shellharbour City Council next month, Shellharbour Mayor Councillor Marianne Saliba, Councillors, Shellharbour City Council CEO Carey McIntyre and senior Council staff joined Frasers Property Australia Development Director for Shell Cove Simone Dyer and NSW General Manager Development Nigel Edgar on Wednesday for an exclusive walk through the precinct that will soon transition into a vibrant, open space, featuring world-class coastal infrastructure and facilities that local residents, visitors and the entire community will be proud of.

The Waterfront, Shell Cove is a new masterplanned community by Shellharbour City Council, with Frasers Property Australia. It is situated in a natural coastal setting surrounded by beaches, parks and wetlands close to schools, transport and major centres.

The Shellharbour Marina, the first stages of the Waterfront Dining Precinct, public boat ramp and car park, foreshore promenade and boardwalks have all been completed and are now set to open to the public in the near future, while The Waterfront Tavern is scheduled to open in December.

Cr Saliba says the completion of the harbour foreshore precinct is the realisation of a vision conceived more than 30 years ago.

“It’s extremely satisfying to see the final piece of the jigsaw puzzle put into place in the masterplanned coastal community after three decades of planning and hard work,” Cr Saliba says.

“The harbour and marina are the focal point of the project that will establish Shell Cove as a leading tourism destination, creating jobs for our community and providing plenty of economic and lifestyle benefits to the region,” says Cr Saliba.

The boat harbour is a feat of modern engineering, with a catchment of 3.45 square kilometres. Larger than Darling Harbour, the water body is 12 hectares in area with a picturesque boardwalk wrapping the harbour’s perimeter. Key features include a 470-metre long breakwater and 280-metre groyne, both with future pedestrian access, as well as floating pontoons and marina services.

Additional components of The Waterfront, Shell Cove masterplan currently in planning or delivery include the 117-room hotel, marina services centre, library and community centre.

Simone Dyer, Development Director, Frasers Property Australia says the completion of infrastructure will activate all the dining, entertainment, boating and leisure components of the project and provide additional amenities to the thousands of people already living at The Waterfront, Shell Cove.

“Very soon locals, the entire Shellharbour community and visitors will be able to stroll along the foreshore and enjoy the picturesque waterfront ambience while having easy access to the vibrant atmosphere of the retail offering and enjoying a bite in the dining precinct,” Ms Dyer said.

“With the activation of the harbour foreshore precinct, the new coastal lifestyle is no longer a dream but a reality. We look forward to the grand opening of the precinct and the community can expect a major celebration event early next year to celebrate the arrival of The Waterfront.”

The Waterfront Sales Centre is located within The Waterfront Town Centre at Shops 1 and 2, 100 Cove Boulevard, Shell Cove. Further information at 13 38 38 or www.thewaterfrontshellcove.com.au.
