PowerDive service imperative

For over 25 years now, PowerDive 12 volt diving systems have been available to boat owners and divers alike. Originally developed by Steve Gregory in Brisbane, the machines are now manufactured by Powerdive in WA.

It is estimated that around 20,000 of these smart diving units exist in Australia, with owners also located worldwide.

Whilst Steve Gregory moved away from the main business 15 years ago, he has continued doing PowerDive repairs, maintenance and servicing. Steve was available on hand recently at the Sanctuary Cove Boat Show, where he was providing advice and guidance to owners about the importance of servicing these PowerDive units.

With some in the marine environment for 20 years, the recommendation is to ensure they are check-over or serviced. Steve’s advice is that they are serviced every 2-3 years, to keep them safe and in tip-top running condition.

Steve says “The reality is that many of these units are still in good condition, which is a great testament to the quality of the PowerDive machines, but some are, especially internally, not in good condition. If the units are corroded inside, this can be quite dangerous, as they will not operate properly and also pose the chance of contaminating the air-flow to the diver, with particles from the corroded internals”.

Steve said that “the good news is that most of the units serviced are in good condition and just need a check-over, clean and a service & adjustment of the regulators”.

Steve provides service for those units that are found to have some corrosion inside the heads and says that replacement parts are available to bring the units back to near-new condition.

To have Steve assist servicing your PowerDive unit, he advises that he needs the machine itself & the regulator/s, to be sent to him in Sandstone Point, just north of Brisbane and for around $125 he can do a standard service, or quote on repair costs, if more work is needed.

Owners of the PowerDive units are advised getting them, irrespective of age, serviced. Steve can provide this service at “East Coast Powerdive Servicing”.
