Michelle Lee’s Journey

Michelle Lee’s epic journey from the west coast of Mexico to Sydney Harbour was a wild dream, now into its 64th day of becoming a reality.  Michelle loves to share her thoughts.  This is what she had to say…

I’m on day 64

The batteries are full, the sun is shining, I’m eating well, loving my puddings, loving my dinners, I’m making lots of water and I look forward to going to bed every night. I look forward to my guided Jose Silva meditations each day, I have 22 meditations purposely selected for me and I go to bed with those. Special thanks to Silva Method Australia for these!!!

I listen to David Goggens “Can’t hurt me”. I laugh, I cry, when I’m listening to these books.

When you’re out of the hustle and bustle, the noise and distractions all of the listening material has so much more impact.

The other day when I did the 70 miles it was so satisfying mentally. Obviously, you’ve got to knock off the miles to get home, it’s also evidence of what being in favourable currents can do. Special thanks to Roger my weather router who labours over all the current charts and looks for how to get me in the best current, he gives me the goal each day to get to a certain point each day and it’s based around current.

So, the last row I did across the Atlantic was 68 days. With where I’m at on a daily trajectory, I’d be rowing into the finish line soon. It was 3000 miles in 68 days. I knew on that day when I got home there’d be a hot shower, I’d be on stable land, I would be able to have a hug.

This time around, day 68 will come and go without a fuss, and not too much thinking about it really.

All is good on board, everything in the boat going really well. My body’s in good shape, no injuries, no soreness, no ailments, I tick off my gratitude list everyday. Grateful for a safe passage, for the sunshine to load up my batteries with power, the forgiving sea that is gentle on boat, body, Roger and his expertise and care and concern, my water for my water mater and for all my systems working.

With today being day 63, I’ve just managed to allocate enough time this week to wash my hair. The 2nd time in 63 days that I’ve washed my hair!

Wow, I felt amazing! I could finally put a brush through my hair, I was definitely developing dreadlocks and I only managed to use about 400mls of my daily water supplies for the final rinse.

The other day I had a bird on board for 2 nights and 2 days – he was like my guardian angel. We chatted every day and he let me get so close. I wasn’t even an arm’s distance away and he didn’t even flinch. He only left the boat to eat. He left the boat, dived into the ocean, ate a fish and then came back to my boat. It was so cool to have the bird’s company on board. My little guardian angel. When he left, I was almost a bit sad to see him go.

Another shark was just cruising behind, me today, left to right, left to right, he was just cruising man. In the 1-2 waves behind me, cruisin’ as he locked his eyes on his next catch. In that moment, I was thinking of Betty Burgers the other day and thinking “oh my gosh, how would it be?” I reminisced on munching into their burgers, “oh that bun, and that mayonnaise they put on there”. Definitely looking forward to chomping into one of those.
