Heather McCallum appointed as Australian Sailing Board Director

Heather McCallum has been appointed to the Board of Australian Sailing. She is a Chartered Accountant, AICD graduate, experienced company Director.

In 2012 she was awarded Tasmanian Female Sailor of the year and remains a keen sailor today as an active keelboat racer, cruiser and offshore competitor.

McCallum was previously Rear Commodore of Tasmania’s Derwent Sailing Squadron and has a background in private enterprise, digital startup, advisory, public accounting, and social housing infrastructure.

“I am delighted to join the board of Australian Sailing and look forward to contributing to the growth and success of our Clubs and increasing participation in sailing more broadly,” said McCallum on her appointment.

McCallum brings a wealth of experience in innovation and digital strategy as a previous CFO and shareholder of a digital media company, with an understanding of how technology can enhance sports administration and engagement. Heather was part of the team that built the original Rolex Sydney to Hobart yacht tracker and subsequently consulted to companies undertaking R&D in surfboard design, composite masts, kite surfing foils and boards.

To replace the vacancy on the Board created by the retirement of Daniel Belcher, Heather McCallum was elected as the ninth member. With McCallum’s election, Australian Sailing now has a greater than 50/50 female gender split on its Board for the first time in its 72-year history. Heather McCallum joins Shevaun Bruland, Suzanne Davies, Joanne Keen and Jenni Maclean as the other females on the nine-person Board.
