Rivergate’s 2022 in review

Rivergate Marina and shipyard have reflected on their successes of 2022. This is what they had to say:

What a year!

2022 was a year filled with milestones and achievements for Rivergate Marina and Shipyard. From fulfilling large scale refits to attending international yacht shows, none of our successes would be made possible without the support of our staff, customers and contractors.

As a new year kicks off, we thought it was a prime opportunity to reflect on some key highlights and our most popular news stories in 2022.

Rivergate supports Maddie Spencer’s Ironwoman dream

Juggling full-time work and study is no easy feat, especially when you’re also preparing to compete in the Nutri-Grain Ironwoman Series. But for Superyacht Australia’s Maddie Spencer, this was her reality.

When Rivergate Marina and Shipyard Director Tom Hill heard Maddie’s story, he decided to sponsor her to assist with the ongoing costs associated with juggling all these commitments.

Rivergate’s sponsorship allowed Maddie to put the time and money into looking after her body with regular physiotherapy appointments so she could put her best foot forward during the Ironwoman Series.

Rivergate Director Judy Brinsmead receives major honour

Rivergate Marina and Shipyard Director Judy Brinsmead was awarded a Member (AM) of the Order of Australia as part of the Queen’s Birthday 2022 Honours List for her significant contribution to charity and business.

In November, Judy joined 20 other outstanding Queenslanders to be presented with Australian Honours and Awards by the Governor of Queensland Dr Jeanette Young at an Investitute Ceremony at Government House.

Rivergate is the pick for race yachts aplenty

From Andoo Comanche to Wild Oats, Black Jack and Stefan, Rivergate has had the pleasure of preparing some of the best racing yachts for the biggest races across Australia.

In August, we caught up with Andoo Comache Team Manager Joe Akacich to hear why Rivergate is his refit and maintenance destination of choice.

Iconic Australian vessel, MY Kokomo II undergoes major transformation

Most boat enthusiasts are familiar with MY Kokomo II, an icon of Australian waters. During her stay at Rivergate, MY Kokomo II has undergone a large scope of works including a transom extension, full repaint, various interior works and the addition of new teak decks.

Rivergate accredited as an International Clean Marina for a fourth time

As a marker of Rivergate’s commitment to environmentally sustainable practices, the business has been accredited as an International Clean Marina for the fourth time

To receive a Level 3 International Clean Marina accreditation, trained and qualified Clean Marina Consultants carried out an independent audit of Rivergate.

As a publicly accessible marina with 24/7 vessel refuelling services, it can be challenging to keep the marina as a consistently clean and sustainable environment. However, the Rivergate team has worked hard to reduce water, air and non-point source pollution.

Lessons learned from 2022 international boat shows

After two years of lockdowns and international travel restrictions, the Rivergate team was excited to traipse the world to reconnect with superyacht colleagues and learn the latest in marine innovation, sustainability and more.

Fresh off the back of overseas jaunts to the Monaco Yacht Show and Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, the Rivergate team took some time to explore the key superyacht discussion areas and trends arising from across the globe.

Sharing wisdom, wit and the explorer spirit

After two years of interrupted travel, the Rivergate team enjoyed the several lunches and networking opportunities that 2022 presented. One particular highlight was the 2022 Sydney Superyacht Captains’ Long Lunch, which was hailed a brilliant and much-needed gathering for skippers and superyacht industry proponents.
