Australian Sailing Celebrates Volunteers

Throughout 2023 Australian Sailing is spotlighting specific themes that are integral to the fabric of the sailing community across our nation.

Every second month Australian Sailing will focus on a specific theme that aligns with the Strategic Foundations from their 10-year Strategic Plan “SAILING 2032” that they are delivering in partnership with clubs to get more people on the water, in more ways, more often.

In May, Australian Sailing featured and celebrated the amazing work done by the thousands of volunteers from sailing clubs around the country. Throughout the month, Australian Sailing will also share resources to assist clubs and classes to continue building and recognising their volunteer workforce.

Volunteers are the lifeblood of sailing in Australia, and essential at every level of club operation and competition. Every one of their 350+ affiliated clubs rely on volunteers to fulfil critical roles in every aspect of the sailing club operations. From making lunches and mowing the rigging lawn to chasing government funding and securing the leases, volunteers are instrumental in ensure sailing continues around the country.

This month they see some of their sport’s volunteers featured on their website and social media accounts (including Facebook and Instagram), relevant resources for clubs and a range of National Volunteer Week content posted during the event from Monday 15th of May to Sunday 21st May.

There are so many incredible volunteers around Australia, all who generously donate their time to see the sport flourish in their local communities and beyond. Join Australian Sailing this May as they celebrate volunteers far and wide, and remember to thank your local volunteers next time you see them around your club!
