E1’s European summer of racing to heat up in Puerto Banús

The UIM E1 World Championship is adding another key date to fans’ calendars with the announcement that the E1 Puerto Banús GP will be held on June 1 and 2, 2024. E1 will bring thrilling close-to-shore racing to Puerto Banús, an exclusive enclave in the city of Marbella which is one of the most recognized luxury nautical and tourism destinations in the world.

But along with a commitment to leisure, sports and culture, Puerto Banús also aligns with E1’s mission to drive change and make a positive impact on marine mobility. The marina is changing habits and incorporating new measures that allow both visitors and employees alike to preserve both the marine facilities and the environment.

These actions aim to comply with the 17 objectives established by the United Nations in its 2030 Agenda, increasing efforts to protect oceans, biodiversity, responsible consumption and pollution reduction.

With over five million visitors to the marina each year, a huge crowd can be expected to line the shore as up to 10 teams consisting of male and female pilots compete, each battling it out to secure the coveted E1 title of Champions Of The Water. The league has already announced world-famous team owners including Spanish sporting legend Rafael Nadal, Tom Brady, Steve Aoki, Didier Drogba, Virat Kohli and Sergio Perez, with more to come.

While it’s always a moment of pride for the series to announce a new race, it’s even more immensely satisfying to partner with a location who’s commitment to sustainable marine practices so closely mirrors our own. I can’t wait to bring E1 to Puerto Banús and for fans in this iconic lifestyle location to witness our RaceBirds in action. Rodi Basso, CEO and co-founder of E1

Season 1 of the E1 World Championship will start on February 2 and 3 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, with the full calendar of iconic global locations to be announced shortly.

Onsite in Puerto Banús fans can enjoy the Acceleration Festival, E1’s dedicated on-site fan activation village with a wide variety of entertainment options and experiences. Ticketing details will be released shortly.

As a result of the port’s work to become a sustainable marina in November 2023 the Cívitas Pueto Banús received the Andalucía Environmental Prize in the category of biodiversity. Puerto Banús has also received the Blue Flag that is awarded to beaches and marinas for their compliance with environmental responsibility, the ISO 9,001 and 14,001 Quality and Environmental Management Certificates respectively, and was recently recognized as the most sustainable marina in Spain, occupying first position in the Ranking of the Most Sustainable Spanish Marinas after a study prepared by the Sustainability Observatory.

Holding the UIM E1 World Championship in Puerto Banús is a great challenge and a very special opportunity. Being able to link the name of Marbella and Puerto Banús to a top-level international event, such as the E1 World Championship, an electric racing event at sea, with a roster of iconic venues, is something extraordinary. Puerto Banús is excited to be one of the race locations in 2024 and we will proudly represent, at a national and international level, a competition of this magnitude that is committed to sustainability. We are looking forward to hosting this great event and we encourage you to join us in enjoying this one-of-a-kind event together. Juan Núñez, CEO, Puerto Banús
