New Wave of Skilled Boating Professionals Ready to Join Victoria’s Marine Industry

A new generation of skilled marine professionals is ready to enter the workforce, thanks to an innovative training partnership between Boating Careers, the Boating Industry Association of Victoria (BIAV), and the Australian College of Pioneers (ACP).

The first cohort of students has now completed the newly developed Certificate IV in Boating Services — a qualification created specifically for the marine sector. The program combines 13 technical units from the Certificate III in Marine Craft Construction with targeted training in business, communication, and workplace safety. The result: job-ready graduates with both hands-on trade experience and operational know-how.

Throughout the course, students gained valuable real-world experience by working within marine businesses across Victoria. They are now equipped with a forklift licence, well-practised skills in the use of hand and power tools, and a strong understanding of safety and business fundamentals.

These graduates are now available for immediate employment in a wide range of marine roles, including:

  • Boat Builder / Marine Craft Construction Worker

  • Boat Maintenance & Repair Technician

  • Fibreglass / Composite Technician

  • Welding & Fabrication Specialist

  • Marina Operations Assistant / Yard Worker

  • Production & Assembly Technician

  • Forklift Driver (Marine Logistics)

  • Hoist / Boat Storage Operator

“This is a major milestone for Victoria’s marine industry,” said a BIAV spokesperson. “These graduates are trained, experienced, and ready to make an immediate impact. We encourage businesses looking for skilled staff to get in touch.”
