Wing foiling has exploded in popularity in the last few years, in part because its uniqueness and versatility make it appealing to all sports fanatics, in particular sailors. Recognising the momentum, Australian Sailing is investing in the growth and development of this emerging discipline, creating opportunities for learning, participation and competition across the country.
To support newcomers to the sport, Australian Sailing has developed a Learn to Wing syllabus and program, which will be delivered by Discover Sailing Centres. This initiative makes it easier than ever for people of all ages and abilities to experience wing foiling in a safe, structured and supportive environment.
In addition, Australian Sailing has partnered with North Action Group Australia, who have come on board as the Official Supplier of the Club Foiling and Learn to Wing programs. This partnership helps clubs and course participants access quality equipment, ensuring they can get out on the water with confidence. For those looking to purchase their own gear, Australian Sailing has also published Equipment Guidelines to help sailors choose the right setup to suit their needs.
Competition is also a key focus. Wing foil divisions are now included in major regattas such as Sail Melbourne and Sail Brisbane, as well as several state-level Youth Sail events, providing pathway for sailors to hone their racing skills and connect with the wider foiling community.
On the international stage, Australian Sailing has joined the International Wing Sports Association as the national member body, supporting the Class’s application to become a recognised World Sailing International Class.
Australian Sailing has supported the establishment of the Australian Wing Foil Racing Class Association. The Australian Wing Foil Racing Class Association are a newly incorporated association, affiliated with Australian Sailing, whose mission is to promote grassroots level and social racing fleets, foster an inclusive environment that welcomes all members and newcomers to the class, encourage, promote and develop Wing Foil competitions around Australia, including an Australian Wing Foil Class Championship.
More information about the Australian Class Association can be found here – Australian Wing Foil Racing Class Association.
The Class have scheduled an Australian Wing Foil Racing Championship to be hosted by Wangi Amateur Sailing Club, 22-25 January 2026.
Inclusivity is also at the heart of the strategy. To support the December 2025 Road to the Para Inclusive World Sailing in Oman, Australian Saling is calling for Expressions of Interest (EOI) from motivated athletes with disabilities who are eager to be part of a groundbreaking Para Wing foiling training program. This program aims to develop Australia’s first para wing foilers with the initial goal of representing Australia at the Para Inclusive World Championships in Oman in December 2025.
