The Cairns Maritime Careers Expo will run in November against the backdrop of major maritime and defence infrastructure developments planned for Northern Australia. Labour and skills shortages continue to challenge regional Australia, particularly across defence sustainment, shipping, commercial operations, advanced manufacturing, superyachts, marine tourism and marine science.
Now in its third year, the Expo is recognised as Australia’s leading marine, maritime and defence workforce development activity. The event connects businesses with local, national and international talent while responding directly to the need for a larger skilled workforce.
High school and university students, aspiring apprentices, job seekers, career changers and transitioning defence personnel will gain a direct line to employers, training providers and universities offering pathways into these industries.
Attendees will take part in shipyard tours, on-water activations, live demonstrations and interactive simulators. A live jobs board will showcase apprenticeships, traineeships and training opportunities, while industry-led panels feature voices from ADF Careers, apprentices, women in trades, First Nations youth, defence personnel and industry leaders who have built careers in the maritime industries.
This event is delivered in partnership with NORSTA Maritime, the Business Liaison Association and Marine Futures.
The 2025 Cairns Maritime Jobs & Careers Expo is supported by industry-aligned government agencies, including the Queensland Government – Department of Trade, Employment and Training, Workforce Australia – Local Jobs Program (Cairns), TAFE Queensland, Cairns Regional Jobs Committee, Queensland Manufacturing Hub and Cairns Regional Council.
