Christmas has come early for our state’s boat ramps, jetties and pontoons with 40 projects sharing $2 million of new maintenance funding.
The Boating Infrastructure Maintenance Program is designed to assist with the upkeep of publicly accessible boating infrastructure and facilities across NSW, ensuring safer more accessible and enjoyable boating experiences.
Councils, clubs, community groups and commercial businesses will benefit from the funding, which includes contributions for jetty repairs, boat ramp cleaning and resurfacing, as well as structural maintenance at maritime infrastructure sites across the state.
The funding responds to feedback received during the 2024 review into the Boating Now Program which reinforced the importance of supporting the maintenance of essential maritime infrastructure.
NSW Maritime Executive Director Mark Hutchings said this funding targets maintenance and repair works to help return boating infrastructure to its optimal operating condition.
“Whether it’s removing algae from a boat ramp, fixing broken deck planks or maintaining slipways or sewage pump-outs, this important initiative is about ensuring our boating facilities are safe, accessible and fit-for-purpose,” said Mr Hutchings.
“Boating infrastructure needs constant maintenance, and this funding supports those people putting in the hard grind to ensure these facilities meet the needs of the community.
“A key part of our $44 million Boating Infrastructure and Dredging Scheme, this funding supports the delivery of both economic and social benefits for our local communities and visitors,” said Mr Hutchings.
