The Northern Territory Government has officially designated the Northern Marine Complex Territory Development Area at East Arm, Darwin Harbour.

This represents a major milestone in establishing a nationally significant maritime maintenance, servicing, and logistics hub.
The Northern Marine Complex represents one of the Northern Territory’s most significant and strategic infrastructure investments which will expand on the Darwin Ship Lift Facility currently under construction and the Marine Industry Park.
As the only major vessel servicing point between Cairns and Perth, Darwin is uniquely positioned to support Northern Australia’s expanding gas, Defence, Border Force and maritime sectors.
This is the first designation under the Territory Coordinator Act 2025, a key pillar of the NT Government’s Rebuilding the Economy strategy – designed to fast-track major projects through streamlined approvals, coordinated planning and greater investor certainty.

What the TDA delivers:
- A clear, long-term vision for East Arm’s economic potential
- Coordinated statutory approvals to de-risk and accelerate investment
- Integrated planning to maximise shared infrastructure
- A single-entity management framework for efficient development
A draft Northern Marine Complex TDA Plan will now be prepared, bringing together government, industry and the community through structured planning and public consultation.
