For the first time in 34 years, the original 1883 lighthouse tower is back in operation, a major milestone made possible through our partnership with NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service.

What this means for the NSW coast:
› Enhanced AtoN reliability at a key coastal waypoint for vessels rounding Green Cape
› Historic lighthouse is again the landmark mariners see
› Active stewardship of a 140-year-old working lighthouse.
The previously used solar powered light on the lattice steel tower has been switched off, and the tower will be decommissioned mid-2026. NSW National Parks is also progressing conservation works on the lighthouse cottages, with completion expected late 2026.
Green Cape demonstrates a model for lighthouse conservation: where a heritage structure can be returned to operational use, reducing infrastructure duplication and preserving the character of the coastline. AMSA is working with heritage custodians to explore similar opportunities across Australia.
