Every Boxing Day since 1945, Sydney Harbour has hosted the start of the Sydney Hobart, one of the world’s great sporting spectacles, and one most people watch from a distance.
In 2026, for the 81st running of the race, there’s an extra way to watch it from a lot closer.
The Jackson, Sydney’s most luxurious charter superyacht, is back again as the official spectator vessel for the Rolex Sydney Hobart and the only public vessel positioned inside the Exclusion Zone for the start. Every other spectator boat on the water is held outside that line. The Jackson’s passengers are inside it.
What that actually means
The start is the most compressed, most dramatic part of the entire race. Over 100 yachts hold position in the Harbour, waiting on the ten-minute gun, then the five-minute gun, then the cannon that sends the whole fleet reaching for open water at once. It’s one of the few moments in the race you can watch up close in person— and from the Main Deck, you will be closer than everybody else.
