The historic Italian company presented a special collection at the leading superyacht show

Pinetti, the Italian company that has been crafting fine leather pieces since 1983 for some of the most exclusive superyachts and hotels in the world, presented the Kumo pet collection at the Monaco Yacht Show, the world’s leading superyacht trade show.

The company’s first line dedicated entirely to the comfort and wellbeing of pets on board translates Pinetti’s well established design language into the world of pet luxury.

At the heart of the collection are the beds, available in three sizes, from the smallest at 62 x 40 cm to the largest at 101 x 62 cm. The wooden frame is covered in leather, the base is in canaletto walnut, and the memory foam cushion, which comes with a removable, washable cover, gives pets a proper rest, one that lives up to the collection’s name: Kumo means “cloud” in Japanese.

Beyond the beds, the line includes pet bowls with a body in fine calfskin and removable stainless steel inserts, and a travel bed in soft memory foam wrapped in washable microfibre, which comes with a leather shoulder strap for carrying with ease.

From rest to walks, the collection also offers a leather collar with a minimal design, marked out by its chrome details and a round tag engraved with the Pinetti logo. It comes in a choice of leather finishes: grained, hammered and woven. A dog leash, a bag holder and a dog pouch complete the line. Every piece, handmade in Italy, gives pets comfort and wellbeing with the elegance typical of italian design. Prices run from 250 euros for the collar to 2,000 euros for the bed.

The collection answers a precise wish among Pinetti’s very loyal clients: to find in new products the same taste and the same quality they already know. “That consistency is one of the advantages we can offer: a shared visual language, through collections that speak to one another. The Kumo pet line extends what Pinetti already does in home decor, and carries over its design codes” explains Lorenzo Pinetti, CEO of the company.

The identity of the company is bound up with leather. In the early Nineties, Pinetti began working with recycled leather, now one of its most distinctive traits: resistant to water, sun and salt air, it is particularly well suited to the exterior areas of a yacht. Some of the company’s best sellers are made from recycled leather, among them the Almeria basket, designed by Antonio De Marco, and Demetra, which today can be found on board more than fifty superyachts. This presence in the nautical world has been built over more than twenty years alongside the major shipyards, Riva, Azimut, Benetti, Ferretti and Sanlorenzo among them.

From intuition to form. Honouring the Pinetti heritage.

Every new collection is developed with full respect for the more than forty years of history and craft the company is rooted in. “A client who chooses Pinetti knows the story of the brand and appreciates the craftsmanship, the quiet luxury of it. Every collection carries a reference back to our heritage: sometimes a shape, a detail, a signature element, sometimes the material itself,” says Lorenzo Pinetti, describing the design philosophy behind the brand.

Pinetti brings a product to clients only when the idea has found its right expression. Creativity and craft do not bend to the timing of the market, and work carries on until the piece is right. Some ideas stay in refinement for years, and an intuition barely sketched out can resurface long afterwards. The company archives are a constant source of ideas, and shapes from the past often come back to life through them. Four decades of handmade production make up a repertoire that every line descends from in some measure, a body of work kept alive not least by Ezia Pinetti, who founded the company with her husband Alberto and is still involved in the design conversation.

Handmade in Italy

Italian craft draws its sense of beauty from an artistic and cultural inheritance of immense value. It is from that backdrop that the Pinetti family built its idea of a business and of a product, putting creativity and skill together. For Pinetti, standing for Made in Italy means bringing culture and innovation together, for good.

“Working with artisans matters enormously to us, and so does working with the most advanced technology available,” explains Lorenzo Pinetti. “On the production side we are constantly looking at the best technology in leather goods, without ever forgetting that the objects we make need a very high proportion of hand work, carried out by skilled, well trained people, with real hand skill and a natural eye for detail.”

That balance is not only a matter for the factory floor. “Knowledge and savoir faire have to coexist at every stage of the work,” he continues. “Every product is the sum of practical skill and years of study, experience, innovation, and relationships with designers and suppliers. Those values sit at the base of the Pinetti identity and of our company culture. Everyone in the company has to be aware of what we are doing, with whom and for whom.”
