Sea Jay PowerMatched

Family-owned Queensland boat manufacturer Sea Jay Boats has achieved a major milestone in its long-standing partnership with Yamaha Motor Australia, becoming a certified PowerMatched partner.

Family-owned Queensland boat manufacturer Sea Jay Boats has achieved a major milestone in its long-standing partnership with Yamaha Motor Australia, becoming a certified boat manufacturing business in Australia to receive official PowerMatched accreditation status.

As part of the Yamaha PowerMatched program, Sea Jay joins an elite group of manufacturers who meet Yamaha’s strict standards for quality, safety, and customer assurance. The accreditation allows Sea Jay to deliver Yamaha Marine-approved boat, motor and rigging packages directly to Yamaha’s dealer network. In return, customers can be assured of quality workmanship, the use of Yamaha Genuine Parts, and the correct engine power matched to each hull.

For Sea Jay’s third-generation business owner, Troy Glass, the recognition is both a professional achievement and a proud moment in the company’s family legacy.

“The PowerMatched partnership gives us a nationally recognised accreditation, supports our credibility and reputation, and generates trust by our dealers and consumers,” Troy Glass said when asked about the importance of the accreditation.

The accreditation ensures that Yamaha PowerMatched Sea Jay boats use only genuine Yamaha parts and accessories and are rigged using Yamaha’s approved methods and strict factory standards. All Sea Jay PowerMatched packages come backed by Yamaha’s warranty, which covers both the outboard and all rigging and peripheral equipment for the same duration – whether used for pleasure or commercial purposes.

For Sea Jay, gaining the accreditation is another memorable step in the journey of a family-owned business with a passion for boating that stretches back almost 50 years. Sea Jay Boats can trace its roots to 1978, when Troy’s grandparents, Ron and Kit Glass, purchased Burnett Marine and renamed it Ron Glass Marine. Their son Colin, along with his wife Janelle, expanded the business into aluminium boat manufacturing in 1989, launching what would soon become the Sea Jay brand.

Initially supported by Queensland dealerships, Sea Jay grew into a nationally recognised brand by the late 1990s. In 1999, at just 16 years old, Troy joined the company full-time after years of watching and learning from his father, Col, as he shadowed him around the workshop.

In 2010, Troy became a director of the business alongside his parents, and in 2012 took the reins of boat design, modernising the process by transitioning designs from 2D to 3D.

With Col and Janelle retiring in 2022, Troy, together with his wife Brooke, now leads the business with the same values that have driven Sea Jay from the beginning: quality craftsmanship, innovation, and a personal commitment to customer satisfaction.

PowerMatched accreditation marks a significant milestone in a partnership with Yamaha that stretches back over 15 years.

“We’ve had a long-standing affiliation with Yamaha, going right back to when we were buying engines for personal use through Ron Glass Marine,” Troy said.

That partnership history, paired with the technical capability of Sea Jay’s team, made the decision to pursue Yamaha PowerMatched accreditation a logical next step.

“It was an opportunity to deliver a product to our customers that is backed by Yamaha, with boat, motor and rigging packages specifically designed for the best possible results,” said Troy. “It also helps grow our brand and reputation through collaboration with a trusted brand such as Yamaha.”

The PowerMatched accreditation process involves comprehensive training and certification, which the Sea Jay team embraced to ensure consistency and quality in every Yamaha outboard installation.

“The process was a great reminder that PowerMatched is ‘one-way, same way’, meaning every engine fit-up uses the same resources and parts to achieve the optimal outcome,” said Troy.

Initially, Sea Jay will offer PowerMatched packages on its mid-range forward-control models, focusing on high-volume favourites in the lineup. But expansion is already in the works.

“We are already working on expanding the PowerMatched relationship to all models fitted with outboards 25hp and above,” Troy confirmed.

For customers, the benefits are clear. PowerMatched turnkey packages remove the complexities of buying a boat and provide customers with specific boat, motor and rigging combinations to suit their application needs.

As Sea Jay looks to the future, Troy confirmed the company’s commitment to developing new models and components that will engage both new customers and loyal supporters. With the strength of Yamaha’s PowerMatched program behind it, Sea Jay is set to deliver reliable, high-performance Australian-made boats for the next generation of boaters.

“The PowerMatched accreditation reinforces everything we’ve worked hard to build,” Troy explained. “We’re proud to align with Yamaha and provide our customers with the best possible boating experience.”
