Nicole Watts PSM appointed Executive Director of NSW Maritime

Nicole Watts PSM has been appointed Executive Director of NSW Maritime at Transport for NSW, taking on leadership of one of the state’s most important maritime agencies.

NSW Maritime plays a central role in keeping waterways safe, supporting economic activity, connecting communities and helping shape the future of maritime across New South Wales. The agency is responsible for maritime regulation, service delivery, safety and community outcomes across the state, operating in a 24/7 environment.

Watts brings extensive senior executive experience across the public and private sectors, with a strong record in safety, infrastructure, operations, organisational performance and service delivery.

Over the past five years, she has worked across key areas of Transport for NSW, including maritime safety, infrastructure programs, operational delivery and customer-focused initiatives.

Her appointment also marks a significant milestone, with Watts becoming the first woman to lead NSW Maritime.

In announcing her appointment, Watts acknowledged the importance of continuing to build a strong, inclusive and capable maritime sector.

“I recognise the importance of continuing to build a strong, inclusive and capable maritime sector where people can contribute, grow and lead,” she said.

Watts was awarded the Public Service Medal in the 2016 Queen’s Birthday Honours List for outstanding public service through the development and implementation of innovative customer service systems in NSW.

Her career achievements include leading maritime safety improvements, strengthening regulatory frameworks and supporting education, engagement and compliance initiatives across NSW waterways. She has also overseen the $205 million Maritime Infrastructure Stimulus Program, funded through the Waterways Fund, delivering 29 projects across NSW including regional harbour improvements, dredging, ferry wharf upgrades and maritime property investments.

Watts said she looked forward to working with the NSW Maritime team, partners and industry to continue delivering safe, reliable and resilient services for NSW.

“I’m excited for the opportunity ahead and look forward to serving the NSW community in this role,” she said.
