What do our beaches, reefs and wetlands mean to you?
Two new videos are helping bring the NSW Marine Estate Management Strategy (Strategy) to life, showcasing why the marine estate is so important to our environment, communities, culture and economy.
One video uses engaging animation to tell the marine estate story in a simple and accessible way, while the other explores how the Strategy is helping protect and enhance the coast and ocean we value today and for future generations.
Together, the videos highlight the vital role the marine estate plays in supporting more than 108,000 jobs and contributing $15 billion to the NSW economy each year.
“From the beaches and estuaries where we spend time with family and friends, to the reefs and wetlands that support wildlife and local economies, the NSW marine estate is part of what makes this state such a great place to live,” said Russell Reichelt, Independent Chair of the Marine Estate Management Authority.
“These videos showcase the importance of these environments and the collective effort required to keep them healthy, productive and resilient into the future.”
Director, Marine Estate Management, Sarah Fairfull, said the Strategy provides a long-term roadmap for protecting these important environments.
“Our marine estate is central to life for many in NSW. With 85% of people living within 50 kilometres of the coast, protecting it is not just about the environment, it’s about our communities, our culture and our economy,” Ms Fairfull said.
“The Strategy is about safeguarding what we value today while ensuring future generations inherit a healthy and resilient marine estate.”
The videos explain why the NSW marine estate is vital to our environment, culture, economy and way of life, and highlight the shared responsibility of caring for these valuable coastal and marine environments.
Watch the videos to learn more about how the Strategy is helping protect and enhance these values for communities across NSW, now and into the future.
