Aboriginal Maritime Safety Plan 2020-22 launched

Transport for NSW has launched the Aboriginal Maritime Safety Plan 2020 -22 during NAIDOC Week

Transport for NSW launched the Aboriginal Maritime Safety Plan 2020 -22 during NAIDOC Week in November 2020. The plan was developed with and for the community, aiming to reduce the likelihood and consequences of boating incidents involving Aboriginal people on the water.

TfNSW acknowledged the cultural values and connection to the waterways of Aboriginal people, recognising its survival and importance to their health and wellbeing. A/Executive Director Andrew Mogg said, “We aim to partner and work with local communities and key stakeholders to improve understanding of the issues. We want to improve understanding of the issues, turn ideas in to action, and deliver sustained improvements in waterway safety for Aboriginal people”

A virtual event was held to launch the plan, with key Aboriginal stakeholders from across the organisation and community. The launch video featured Aboriginal staff from across the Transport cluster, including the Maritime and the Centre for Maritime Safety units, as well as Shane Phillips from Tribal Warrior Aboriginal Corporation.
