New Zealand’s First 5 Gold Anchor Marina

Half Moon Bay Marina has become New Zealand’s first 5 Global Gold Anchor Marina! Global Gold Anchor is an international accreditation which requires a rigorous assessment of a marina’s services, procedures, and facilities, including a customer survey. Delivered in the Asia Pacific region by the Marina Industries Association (MIA) the accreditation aims to inform consumers as to the level of services and facilities at marinas and to provide marinas operators with a set of standards and benchmarks to maintain.

Established in 1969, Half Moon Bay Marina is situated on the Tamaki River to the East of the City of Auckland. The marina has 580 berths that can accommodate vessels up to 30m. There are dedicated multihull berths, onsite 24/7 fuel wharf, pump out facilities and an extensive boatyard with a 35T and 85T Travelift. It has one of cleanest boatyards around and offers trades and customers the hire of 18 covered work bays. The work sheds have been designed as a feature and are lit up at night to provide an attractive spectacle for those on the river.

There are extensive parking facilities available to customers, an onsite shopping precinct including a medical centre and a number of restaurants, cafes and bars. A gym is also available to marina customers.

The new 97-berth North Pier development and extension to the marina was specifically designed to house larger quality vessels up to 30m. This extension has a dedicated dock master, a dedicated marina office and amenities.

Half Moon Bay is the New Zealand Gold Anchor Marina accredited this year and the first to be awarded the coveted 5 Gold Anchors! Suzanne Davies MIA CEO was recently provided a tour of the marina and commented, “This is the second time I have visited this impressive marina. It is so well looked after and presented”.

Mark Hollier CEO of Half Moon Bay responded, “The secret is my team. We are very fortunate to have a team of long-term staff who are experts in their field, love this marina and their jobs. It is no secret we have great facilities, but it is the service and the care provided by the team that really set us apart.”

Half Moon Bay is certainly deserving of its 5 Gold Anchors, and who knows, in the future, perhaps there’ll be more to come.

Andrew Chapman, MIA President explained, “There are over 230 Gold Anchor marinas accredited in 29 countries around the world. The Pacific region has some of the best marina facilities in the world, which we are very proud of, and it is good to see them being recognised with the Gold Anchor accreditation.”
