Boat speed limited to 6 knots in parts of Baffle Creek

Maritime Safety Queensland (MSQ) has implemented 6-knot speed limits for two sections of Baffle Creek from 3 October 2025.

The new speed limits are being introduced in the interests of safety, following overwhelming community support for the proposal during public consultation.

The speed limits will apply to a 500-metre section of the creek adjacent to the boat ramp at Rocky Point Road, and a 385-metre section adjacent to the public boat ramp located on the south bank of the creek at Winfield Road, Winfield.

Baffle Creek previously had no gazetted speed limits.

Maritime Safety Queensland consulted in July and August 2025 over a proposal to introduce the new speed limits, following complaints from the public about vessels travelling at unsafe speeds in these areas of the creek.

Eighty-five per cent of respondents during MSQ’s public consultation supported the introduction of 6-knot speed limits at the two locations.

Maritime Safety Queensland subsequently moved to gazette the new speed limits.

Details of the affected areas can be found on MSQ’s website.

Following gazettal, boaties caught travelling at speeds above 6 knots in the two affected areas of the creek can be fined.

Fines for speeding start at $333.
