Gineico Marine has introduced PuRO, a new onboard water purification system designed to improve the quality of dock water before it enters a vessel’s holding tanks.

As modern vessels continue to place greater emphasis on comfort, safety and self-sufficiency, onboard water quality has become an increasingly important part of the ownership and guest experience.
While desalination and watermaker systems are widely recognised for producing fresh water from seawater, many vessels continue to rely on marina or municipal dock water when alongside.
The quality of that dock water can vary considerably between locations.
Depending on the marina, local infrastructure and source supply, water entering a vessel may carry sediment, chlorine, fluoride, bacteria, micro-plastics, heavy metals from ageing pipework, or other unwanted contaminants.
Once introduced into holding tanks, these contaminants can affect water used for drinking, cooking, showers, laundry, ice makers and other onboard applications, while also contributing to residue and build-up within tanks, pumps, taps and plumbing systems.
PuRO has been developed specifically to address this part of the water supply chain. Rather than acting as a seawater desalination system, PuRO is purpose-built to purify dock water before it is taken onboard. The system uses reverse osmosis technology to remove contaminants down to 0.0001 of a micron, providing a high level of filtration before water reaches the vessel’s storage tanks.
According to Gineico Marine, the system has been designed for high-flow operation, with production capacity of up to 500 litres per hour. It features an integrated pressure pump, a compact 316 mirror-polished stainless-steel body, low-noise operation and flexible installation options, including horizontal or vertical mounting. It can also be configured for mobile dockside use, providing flexibility for different vessel layouts and operating requirements.
The system can be operated through a backlit digital touchscreen or via Wi-Fi enabled mobile app connectivity. Users can set a desired output volume, with automatic start and stop functionality designed to simplify filling operations and reduce the need for constant supervision during water bunkering.

For vessel owners, captains and crew, the benefits extend beyond drinking water alone. Pure clean water can support better onboard hygiene, improve the quality of water used for showers and laundry, and assist with wash-downs by helping reduce spotting and residue on painted and stainless-steel surfaces. It can also provide greater consistency for vessels moving between marinas, where dock water standards and supply infrastructure may differ.
PG, Director of Gineico, said PuRO had been designed to meet a specific and often overlooked need in onboard water management.
The launch comes as Gineico Marine marks its 50th year in 2026. The company says PuRO reflects its continued focus on bringing high-performance Italian marine products to market, with an emphasis on practical solutions that improve onboard comfort, safety and vessel operation.
With water quality becoming a more prominent consideration for cruising, charter and long-range vessels, PuRO has been positioned as a complementary system within the broader onboard water management environment. By treating dock water before it enters the vessel, it addresses a point in the process that can have a direct impact on both the onboard experience and the long-term care of vessel systems.
