Coral Sea Marina expands cruising the Whitsundays Documentary Series with new episodes

Every winter, hundreds of cruising vessels make their way north, escaping the colder southern climate in search of warmer waters, island adventures and the unparalleled beauty of the Great Barrier Reef. For many, that journey begins at Coral Sea Marina in Airlie Beach – the Whitsundays’ most awarded marina and the gateway to one of the world’s most spectacular cruising destinations.

To inspire and educate visiting boaties, Coral Sea Marina has launched two new episodes of its acclaimed Cruising the Whitsundays documentary series, giving viewers an even deeper understanding of the natural, cultural and environmental significance of the region.

The short documentary series showcases why the Whitsundays continues to be Australia’s premier cruising destination, inviting viewers to discover crystal-clear waters, pristine beaches, vibrant coral reefs, abundant marine life and the welcoming coastal community that makes the region so unique.

Designed for both experienced cruisers and those dreaming of their first Whitsundays adventure, the series combines breathtaking scenery with practical local knowledge, helping visitors enjoy the region responsibly while making the most of their time on the water.

The latest releases shine a spotlight on two important aspects of the destination—environmental stewardship and cultural connection.

Episode 4: Protecting Paradise – Sustainability on the Great Barrier Reef

This episode explores how visitors can help protect one of the world’s greatest natural wonders while enjoying it responsibly. Featuring experts from the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS), the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA) and Tangaroa Blue, the episode covers reef conservation, wildlife protection, seasonal whale migrations and simple actions boaters can take to minimise their environmental impact.

Tangaroa Blue also introduces its Reef Clean Program, encouraging visitors to contribute to the Australian Marine Debris Initiative and leave the region even better than they found it.

Episode 5: Cultural Heritage

In the series’ fifth episode, Robert Congoo, Director of Yooribaya Cultural Experiences, shares the rich cultural heritage of the Whitsunday Islands and Great Barrier Reef. Through stories and local knowledge, viewers gain a deeper appreciation of the enduring connection between Country, sea, and community, and discover meaningful ways to engage with the region’s cultural heritage during their visit.

Joscelyn O’Keefe, Head of Marketing and Business Development at Coral Sea Marina, said the series was created to inspire more people to experience the Whitsundays while encouraging responsible boating practices.

“Our goal was to create a series that both educates and inspires people to cruise the incredible Whitsundays and Great Barrier Reef region.”

“We’ve been fortunate to collaborate with passionate local experts and organisations who generously share their knowledge, helping visitors better understand and appreciate this extraordinary destination.” - Joscelyn O'Keefe, Head of Marketing and Business Development at Coral Sea Marina

The Cruising the Whitsundays documentary series continues Coral Sea Marina’s commitment to supporting sustainable tourism and promoting responsible boating throughout the Whitsunday Islands and Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.
