What to expect from the 2026 NZ Marina and Boatyard Conference

From the big strategic topics to solutions to everyday operational problems, the three-day NZ Marina and Boatyard Conference will once again inform, inspire and support your work as marina and boatyard professionals.

“We all face similar challenges and so coming together from around New Zealand and abroad, sharing and learning from each other is hugely beneficial,” says NZMOA Chairperson, Chris Galbraith.

Hosted by Tauranga, the event will be set amidst one of the country’s most beautiful and harbour-oriented towns, where there is a major port, several marinas, and boatyard facilities.

During the first two conference days, delegates will examine the political environment and its impact on the industry. Economist Tony Alexander will also return to discuss the economic outlook and the uncertain conditions facing businesses and communities.

The program will feature industry leaders from New Zealand and overseas. Sessions will explore how Port Nelson is undertaking a three-year review of its health and safety practices, with a particular focus on critical risks.

Delegates will also receive the latest information on Resource Management Act reform and how proposed changes may affect consents and licences, along with an update on NZMOA’s major area of work for the year: developing training designed to support the future of the industry.

The conference will provide an opportunity to help shape the industry’s understanding of boating demographics, emerging markets and what these trends may mean for marina-berthed vessels. Key partners and stakeholders will be invited to contribute to the development of a future industry strategy.

Other topics will include the future of Westhaven following the expiry of its marina berth licences in 2026 and advice from specialist lawyers on managing unwanted boats.

The event includes the presentation of the Marina of the Year, Boatyard of the Year, Outstanding Initiative, and Outstanding Individual Contribution to the Industry Awards, a showcase of trade exhibitors as part of the event, and a boat tour of the best of Tauranga’s marine facilities.

The NZ Marina and Boatyard Conference take place 23-25 September 2026 in Tauranga. Reserve your place now; www.nzmoa.com/event-details/new-zealand-marinas-and-boatyard-conference-2026
