Devonport Chamber of Commerce & Industry Outlines Key Priorities Ahead of 2025 State Election

The Devonport Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) has released its 2025 State Election Priorities, urging all political parties and candidates to commit to a stable, regionally focused agenda that supports the ongoing economic growth and prosperity of Devonport and the wider community.

President, Claire Connelly, said Chamber members are personally invested in the future of Devonport and are seeking clear commitments from all candidates.

“Our election platform outlines key projects and priority reforms essential to unlocking Devonport’s full potential. Our city is growing, but we must maintain momentum through strong leadership, strategic investment, and policies that deliver lasting community and economic benefits. While we have other aspirations, the current focus must be on a responsible, sustainable plan,” said Mrs Connelly.

Of its three key projects to unlock regional growth, one related to the Devonport Maritime Precinct – With an approved design, land secured, and strong community support, this $25.5M project is ready to go. Backed by $3.5M in private investment and a previous $5M State Government commitment, it will position Devonport as a hub for aquaculture, seafood, marine servicing, and cruising. We’re seeking renewed and additional commitments to deliver 35 direct jobs and unlock hundreds more across the region in related industries.

“The Devonport Maritime Precinct is shovel-ready and backed by private investment, it’s a no-brainer project that will generate jobs, attract vessels, and re-establish Devonport’s marine history. The loss of port services and closure of the Devonport slipway has led to a decline in skills, investment and industry opportunities.

Our priorities are practical and achievable, designed to help Devonport thrive – not just for business, but for the whole community. Our members are ready to invest, hire, and innovate, but they need government to create the right conditions to make that possible,” said Mrs Connelly.

DCCI will continue to engage with candidates and stakeholders throughout the campaign period to advocate for our community.

The Tasmanian state election is scheduled for 19 July 2025.
