Minister for Ports and Freight Melissa Horne announced the opening of the newly upgraded Mornington Fishermans Jetty, through a $18 million investment from the Labor Government.

This will boost the popular destination for both locals and tourists alike and features timber decking, solar lighting, and seating crafted from materials salvaged from the old structure.

Additionally, access ladders have been added to improve safety and accessibility, with the completed jetty providing berthing access for up to 27 vessels.

Work is also continuing to rebuild Hampton Pier with an elegant and durable steel piled structure that will feature timber decking to preserve the aesthetic appeal of the old pier and is expected to open in by the end of the year.

The addition of a 24-metre pontoon will extend the pier into deeper water and feature a gangway ramp and floating pontoon.

The upgrades have been developed in consultation with stakeholders and the community, ensuring the upgraded structures are there for the local community.

Victoria’s local ports contribute more than $900 million a year to local and regional economies through tourism, marine activities and critical industries such as commercial fishing – supporting jobs and families for Victorians.

Minister for Ports and Freight Melissa Horne said:

“I’m excited to announce the new Mornington Fishermans Jetty is open for the local community and tourists to enjoy.”

“Mornington is a popular tourist destination and home to a vibrant bayside community and the completion of works at this jetty will ensure locals and visitors can continue to enjoy safe access for fishing, boating and recreation.”

Member for Eastern Victoria Tom McIntosh said:

“These new structures will be a great asset for locals and tourists – attracting even more visitors.”
