The Queensland Government is upgrading Maryborough’s South Street boat ramp and floating walkway to deliver safer, more resilient boating infrastructure for the Fraser Coast community.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads, through Maritime Safety Queensland, has completed extensive planning and design to identify the most effective upgrade for the site, which is exposed to frequent flooding, fast-flowing water and substantial debris loads.
Improvements will include larger, stronger piles and a more durable floating walkway to improve structural integrity and lifespan. The boat ramp will also be resurfaced and strengthened with a grout mattress to improve stability and reduce scour.
The construction contract was awarded in late September 2026, allowing material procurement, offsite fabrication and other pre-construction activities to commence, with onsite works are expected to begin in late January 2027 and finish by June 2027, weather and site conditions permitting.
The South Street boat ramp will be closed during works for public safety and efficient construction. Alternative launching facilities will remain available at the Raglan Street boat ramp in Granville and Beaver Rock.
Maritime Safety Queensland thanks the community for its patience while the upgrade is delivered.
