The Wild Thing 100 sailing team made an indelible mark on the 520-mile course by setting a new race record, completing the journey in just over 35.5 hours. This impressive feat saw the team logging an average speed of 17.5 knots through the water.
Skipper and CYCA Member, Grant Wharington, was effusive in his praise for the crew’s exceptional performance and the impeccable preparation of the boat. Special recognition was given to Boat Captain Theo and First Mate Patrick for their meticulous work in readying Wild Thing 100 for the race.
“We couldn’t have asked for a better team or better conditions,” Wharington said. “The crew sailed the boat brilliantly, and Theo and Patrick ensured everything was in perfect order. This achievement is a testament to their hard work and dedication.”
The race, hosted by the Southport Yacht Club, culminated in a warm and enthusiastic reception in Mackay, adding to the overall positive experience for the participants. The welcoming atmosphere of Mackay, coupled with the exhilarating trade wind sailing, has left the Wild Thing 100 team eager to return.
