This publication presents the results of a census taken of Queensland Regulated Ships (QRS) that were registered on 30 June 2020. Queensland Regulated Ships are recreational vessels or other vessels expressly excluded from the operation of the Marine Safety (Domestic Commercial Vessels) National Law Act 2012 (Cth) or the Navigation Act 2012 (Cth).

Marine incident reporting is essential to improving marine safety. Every year Maritime Safety Queensland reviews and analyses the marine incident data collected for the previous calendar year to better understand the circumstances surrounding marine incidents, and the likely causes.

On July 1 2021 a 12-month transitional period began for implementation of the Road Vehicle Standards Act (RVSA) 2018 to replace the Motor Vehicle Standards Act 1989. The RVSA better reflects the significant changes in global and domestic vehicle markets and improvements in vehicle technologies over the last few decades.

Recreational Boating in NSW 2019 Survey Results
The survey aims to provide a detailed understanding of boater characteristics and boating activity in NSW. Annual survey data helps Transport for NSW (TfNSW) identify changes in the nature of recreational boating participation and activities over time.

Recreational Boating Participation Executive Summary published September 2018
The Centre for Maritime Safety engaged Ipsos Market Research to determine the current participation level of recreation boating within New South Wales waterways.
The research was undertaken to assist in better understanding the demographic and behavioural profile of boaters across NSW.
