Yamaha continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible for an outboard engine with the Australian release of its new Wireless Controller, the latest addition to Yamaha’s revolutionary Helm Master EX boat control system.

This industry-first device delivers all the benefits of the Helm Master EX system, plus an integrated Man Overboard (MOB) system, all packaged in a durable, waterproof, buoyant and stylish remote-control unit.
Jason Harris, General Manager Sales and Marketing – Marine, Yamaha Motor Australia, said, “No longer is the skipper confined to the helm.
“Boaters can now move freely around their vessel – whether joining in the fishing, completing onboard tasks or repositioning themselves for a better view when docking, trailering or approaching underwater structures – all while maintaining full control of their craft,” he said.

Available for 150HP and up, single through to quad outboard set-ups, the controller includes all the Helm Master EX joystick functions, Autopilot controls and SetPoint boat-positioning features, along with additional capabilities that make for a more enjoyable boating experience. The controller can also potentially function as a secondary control station.
Designed for one-handed operation, the controller frees up the captain’s other hand for tasks such as tossing out lines or adjusting fenders, while the boat is underway.
The built-in colour screen displays active functions alongside real-time data on vessel heading and speed – important information for monitoring the boat’s course while using the Autopilot and SetPoint features.

“When it comes to safety, our engineers have thought of everything, with the integration of a man overboard (MOB) system into the handheld controller.
“Should a passenger fall overboard, an alarm will alert the captain. Should the captain fall overboard, a signal will trigger the boat to decelerate to a stop, with the engines going into idle or shutting down completely, depending on the situation and system settings,” Jason said.
Yamaha’s Wireless Controller comes with one Captain and one Passenger fob, with the ability to support up to eight fobs in total. Each fob comes with an interchangeable wristband and lanyard, ensuring all crew are accounted for – including pets.
The controller provides user access to the Heading Hold and Course Hold Autopilot features, including the ability to make on-the-fly adjustments as needed.

Helm Master EX StayPoint®, FishPoint®, and DriftPoint® boat-positioning functions are also available through the remote device, along with full joystick manoeuvrability – shifting, steering and throttle control.
Additional handy features include the ability to remotely switch engines and lighting on and off, activate the Power Trim and Tilt (PTT) and operate a windlass anchor.
The wireless controller offers up to eight hours of battery life and comes with a USB-C charging plug, as well as its own charging cradle, which can be mounted anywhere in the boat, as long as it is protected from the weather.
